TOPEKA, Kan. —Kansas State Treasurer Ron Estes was elected Midwest Regional Vice President of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) at their annual conference this week in Bismarck, North Dakota. The Regional Vice President serves as the primary link between the National Executive Committee and the members from the region.
"I am looking forward to the privilege of working with the Treasurers from the Midwest--all who are dedicated public servants. I am honored to be selected by them to serve as their voice to the National Executive Committee," said Treasurer Estes.
NAST President and North Dakota State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt said it was no surprise that Estes is the new Midwest regional Vice President.
"Treasurer Estes has quickly earned the respect of his fellow State Treasurers. I have great confidence in his ability to serve and look forward to working with him,” said Schmidt.
“I am honored to hand off the responsibility of Midwest Regional Vice President to Treasurer Estes,” said Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock. “Ron takes his commitment to the office of the State Treasurer and to the taxpayers of Kansas very seriously.”
The Midwest Region includes Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio.
As well as being the voice of the region the Regional Vice President also conducts regional training, education, and discussion sessions and mentors new treasurers in the region. Treasurer Estes’ term begins January 1st, 2012 and lasts one year.####
